Mallorcan Vineyards
If you are a wine fan then Mallorca is the place for you! There are some terrific vineyards or Bodegas as they are called here in Mallorca, for you to visit.
We can recommend some journeys worth taking which involve visiting a bodega or two!
For the first trip, head to Inca via Sineu.
Sineu is one of the oldest towns in Mallorca (14th century), it is extremely stylish and the galleries and cafes give it a buzzy feel.
Wednesday is market day and it is reputed that this is the only town on the island where livestock are sold at market. There are also some great “Cellar” restaurants to enjoy also.
Next move on to Inca and follow signs to Binissalem and a visit to the Bodega of Jose L Ferrer, the largest wine producer on the island is a must. The reds are particularly good and there are wines to suit most budgets.
Next up is the vineyard of Macia Batle. Stay on the same road turning left from Jose Ferrer and continue to Santa Maria Del Cami approximately 6 km along the road and Macia Batle is on your right after leaving Santa Maria Del Cami. The wines are great and the staff are friendly. The Bodega is stunning with wonderful art and the trip round it is easy and relaxed. Look out for the ‘top end’ Reserva Privado, each year an artist designs the label for this special wine!! This is the one bodega we recommend before any other. When leaving turn left and head back to Binissalem.
From Binissalem travel towards Sencelles. One kilometre before Sencelles on the left is Son Prim Petit Cellar, and as the name suggests this is a very small relatively new winery. They only produce three reds and offer a Merlot, a Syrah and a Cabernet Sauvignon all are outstanding and the Merlot is award winning! The only ‘white’ they do is a ‘blush’ white merlot. Yes ‘white merlot’ and this wine, well chilled, is a beauty!!
The wines are not particularly cheap, but they do supply some of the best restaurants on the island and also Harrods in London!
All the Bodegas open after 3pm allowing you plenty of time to enjoy Sineu. Or alternatively travel out to Port de Pollenca, enjoy lunch then take the breathtaking drive to Cap de Formentor, the views are simply stunning and the road is scary!
On the road between Pollenca and Alcudia, Bodega Ca’n Videlet is situated, the Rose wines from here are superb, this bodega is also a gin distillery having produced a gin with eleven botanicals from pomace following a failed crop of red grapes. They also produce a Grappa which is the pomace brandy that forms the base of their gin. Travel from Ca’n Videlet and enjoy the journey back to Villa Aguila to savour the wine with a lovely barbeque!!!
